Boho Chic Aztec Crochet Wall Hanging Free Pattern

Yarn: Alize cotton gold (or any sport/fine weight yarn) in:

(A)Cream (code1) -1 Skein,

(B) Candle light (code 67) – 1 skein,

3.5 mm hook,
Scissors
15 inches (38 cm) Wooden dowel/stick
Optional wood beads for the decorative tassels

Key

ch – chain
sc – single crochet
mini bo – mini bobble stitch

Special Stitches:

Mini Bobble Stitch (mini bo):

Yarn over, insert your hook into the next stitch. Pull yarn through two loops as if you are doing the first part of a double crochet (DC) (2 loops on the hook). Repeat one more time. So that you have 2 HDC on your hook and 1 initial loop (total 3 loops on the hook); yarn over and pull through all 3 loops.

Gauge:

24 sc and 18 rows = 4″ [10 cm].

Measurements:

12″ x 20.5″ [30 cm x 52 cm]

Skill level: Beginner-Intermediate

Notes:

The pattern is written in us terms.
Chain one is NOT considered as the first stitch throughout this pattern
Although in the first two rows and the last two rows, You won’t need to change colors for the mini bo. I Recommend that you work your Sc stitches over color B yarn So that you have consistency in the weight of your whole piece, Since you will do this anyways in the rest of the pattern.
I will be referring to cream as color A. beige/candlelight as color B and khaki as color C.
For each set of mini bo stitches, you will have to switch to color A and pull through the three loops of the last mini bo then do your next sc as normal with color A.
Here is a video tutorial showing you how to switch colors within one row. I used row 11 from the pattern in the video to show how to use three colors within one row.
I recommend that you use a cotton acrylic blend yarn that is not too stiff. Or any type of cotton sport yarn that has a little bit of elasticity.
Finally I recommend that for Color A and B you use colors that doesn’t have too much contrast so that you don’t have a dark shadow under your base. and if you want to create contrast you can use color C for that. The same way I did with my wall hanging.

Please read the notes section before starting the pattern

With a 3.5 mm hook, and color A, Chain 70.

Row 1.Sc in the second chain from the hook and in each stitch in the row, chain 1 and turn

Row 2.Sc in the very first stitch and all the remaining stitches, chain 1 and turn

Row 3. 30 sc, Switch to color B, *1 mini bo, sc* repeat from *to * 3 more times, do one more mini bo in the next stitch. Switch to color A , sc to the end of the row. chain 1 and turn

Row 4. Sc in each stitch in the row, chain 1 and turn

Row 5. 31sc, Switch to color B,*1 mini bo, sc* repeat from *to * 2 more times, do one more mini bo in the next stitch. Switch to color A, sc to the end of the row, chain 1 and turn

Row 6. Sc in each stitch in the row, chain 1 and turn

Row 7. 32sc,Switch to color B, *1 mini bo, sc* repeat from *to * 1 more time, do one more mini bo in the next stitch. Switch to color A, sc to the end of the row, chain 1 and turn

Row 8. Sc in each stitch in the row, chain 1 and turn

Row 9. 33sc, Switch to color B, 1 mini bo, sc, 1 mini bo. Switch to color A. Sc to the end of the row, chain 1 and turn

Row 10. Sc in each stitch in the row. Switch to color B, chain one and turn

Row 11.*sc, 1 mini bo* repeat from *to * 4 more times, Switch to color A, Sc in each of the next 19 stitches. Add color C (as shown in the video), work your 20th sc over it, Switch to color C (work the next section over both color A,B & the tail of color C) *1 mini bo, sc* repeat from *to * 3 more times, do one more mini bo in the next stitch, Switch to color A, Sc in each of the next 20 stitches, Switch to color B.*1 mini bo, sc* repeat from *to * 4 more times. The second half of the pattern is a repetition for the first half in reverse:

Row 45. Attach color A, to the other side of your work so that the right side of the wall hanging is facing you, Then Sc in each stitch in the row as normal. Switch to color B, chain one and turn

Finishing:

Work one last row of single crochet on the side edges of the wall hanging (one sc in each row)
Attach your wall hanging to the wooden dowel as you see

The last step is to make some Decorative Tassels (you can check how I made mine here) and attach it to the bottom edge of your crochet wall hanging!
