Hey Everybody! Today I have a Crochet Ramadan Lantern pattern for you. If you have read any of my previous posts or the about me page you may know that am Egyptian and Muslim. And as I write this it’s the first day in Ramadan! I honestly didn’t plan earlier to make this pattern. But as I was sitting yesterday the idea for this pattern popped in my mind. I went directly to my yarn stash, picked some yarn and immediately started so that I can make it and hang it before the first day of Ramadan! Which is today. And I did it. It took me a couple of hours. So basically this may be the fastest pattern I have worked from the idea to the result!

The materials you will need for this crochet wall hanging are:

- One skeins of Alize cotton gold plus (cream)
- One skeins of your accent color I used Himalaya everyday saffron (code 70058) Or any medium weight (4) acrylic yarn of your choice.
- 4 mm hook, Stitch markers, Scissors, Measuring tape. Here is a set with one of my favorite hooks sets along with stitch markers and needles
- Wooden dowel (approximately 12″ 30 cm)
Measurements:
- Sizing: Approx 22″ (Including the fringes) x 12″ [56 cm x 30 cm].
Guage:
- Gauge: 16 sc and 16 rows = 4″ [10 cm].
Skill level: Beginner
Abbreviations and Glossary (US Terms):
- ch – chain
- sc – single crochet
- bo- Bobble stitch: Watch this tutorial for the method I used to change colors with the bobble stitches
Yarn over, insert hook into the next stitch and pull up a loop. Yarn over, pull through two loops. as if you are doing the first part of a double crochet (DC) (2 loops on the hook); repeat it until you have 5 HDC on your hook and 1 initial loop (total 6 loops on the hook); yarn over and pull through all 6 loops (1 loop on the hook – pull pretty tight, so your bobble really pops up); and sc in the next stitch.
Notes:
- The pattern is written in us terms.
- The pattern starts from the bottom and ends at the top
- You will work all stitches in creme except the bobble stitches.
- You can adjust the dimensions of the wall hanging by adding or subtracting rows up and down and. Or chains form right and left.
- Your stitch count through out the whole pattern will be 41 stitches
- For the rows that does not have bobbles you can either work the entire row over the saffron yarn so that you can pick it up the next row. or you can cut the yarn by the end of each bobble row and re attach it at the start of the next bobble row.
CROCHET WALL HANGING INSTRUCTIONS:
Chain 42 with your base color.
Row 1-4. Sc in each stitch in the row

Row 5. 14 sc, (1 bo, 1sc) 7 times, 13 sc.
Now you can either work the entire row over the saffron yarn so that you can pick it up the next row. Or you can cut the yarn by the end of this row and re attach it again at the start of the next bobble row.
Row 6. Using your base color sc in each stitch in the row.
Row 7. 14 sc, (1 bo, 1sc) 7 times, 13 sc.
Row 8. Using your base color sc in each stitch in the row.
Row 9. 16 sc, (1 bo, 1sc) 5 times, 15 sc.
Row 10. Using your base color sc in each stitch in the row.
Row 11. 18 sc, (1 bo, 1sc) 3 times, 17 sc.
Row 12. Using your base color sc in each stitch in the row.
Row 13. 17 sc, (1 bo, 1sc) 4 times, 16 sc.
Row 14. Using your base color sc in each stitch in the row.
Row 15. 17 sc, (1 bo, 1sc) 4 times, 16 sc.
Row 16. Using your base color sc in each stitch in the row.
Row 17. 16 sc, (1 bo, 1sc) 5 times, 15 sc.
Row 18. Using your base color sc in each stitch in the row.
Row 19. 16 sc, (1 bo, 1sc) 5 times, 15 sc.
Row 20. Using your base color sc in each stitch in the row.
Row 21. 15 sc, (1 bo, 1sc) 6 times, 14 sc.
Row 22. Using your base color sc in each stitch in the row.
Row 23. 14 sc, (1 bo, 1sc) 7 times, 13 sc.
Row 24. Using your base color sc in each stitch in the row.
Row 25. 14 sc, (1 bo, 1sc) 7 times, 13 sc.
Row 26. Using your base color sc in each stitch in the row.
Row 27. 16 sc, (1 bo, 1sc) 5 times, 16 sc.
Row 28. Using your base color sc in each stitch in the row.
Row 29. 18 sc, (1 bo, 1sc) 3 times, 17 sc.
Row 30. Using your base color sc in each stitch in the row.
Row 31. 20 sc, 1 bo, 20 sc.
Row 32-34. Using your base color sc in each stitch in the row.
Crescent Moon(Make 2)
Ch 16.
1. slip stitch in 2nd ch from hook, and the next one. 1 Sc in next 2 chs. 2 sc in next ch. 1Sc in next 5 chs. 2 sc in next ch. 1 Sc in next 2 chs. Sl st in next 2 chs. Turn.
2. Ch 1. Sk same st and next st. Sl st in next st. Sc in next st. Hdc in next st. 2 dc in next st. *1 Dc in next 2 sts. 2 dc in next st. * repeat form * to* one more time. Hdc in next st. Sc in next st. Sl st in the next st.
Star (Make 2)
Make a magic ring
Round 1.work 10 sc in the magic ring
Round 2.Chain 8 slip stitch in the second chain from the hook, sc in the next 2 chains, hdc in the next chain, dc in the next 2 chains, slip stitch in the next sc form the previous round. Repeat 4 more times.
Finishing Touches
- Work one last row of sc around the 2 side edges of the wall hanging.
- Attach your wall hanging to the wooden dowel as you see in this video
- Cut 43 double strands of saffron yarn that are 24”(60 cm)
- And attach it to the bottom edge as you see in this video (one strand in each stitch)
- Hang the the wall hanging and trim the ends of the fringes if needed.
- Attach your stars and crescent moon. Weave in ends and cut the excess yarn
